Labradorite, also known as Spectrolite, is a gemstone with a spectacular play of colors caused by the refraction of light on microscopic crystals. Usually found in pegmatites and basic magmatites, labradorite often appears in shapeless or granular structures. Labradorite gets its name from the region of Labrador in Canada, but it was first discovered in Norway.

Chemical composition:
Labradorite is composed of several elements. The chemical formula of labradorite is (Ca,Na)(Al,Si)4O8. This means that it is composed of calcium (Ca), sodium (Na), aluminum (Al), and silicon (Si), along with oxygen (O). But there can be variation in the elements, and this variation creates the unique characteristics and colors of this beautiful mineral.
Hardness:
The hardness of labradorite generally ranges between 6 and 6.5 on the Mohs scale.
Locations:
Labradorite is found in several places around the world. Some of the known deposits are: Norway, Finland, Madagascar and Canada.
